Kansas City, MO – Passenger Ejected, One Seriously Hurt in Suspected DUI Crash on The Paseo & Truman Rd

Kansas City, MO (December 27, 2025) – A suspected DUI crash left one person critically injured on Saturday, December 27, in Kansas City. The collision occurred around 2:37 a.m. near The Paseo and Truman Road, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

Police said a white Chrysler 300 ran a red light while heading east on Truman Road and crashed into a gray Jeep traveling south on The Paseo with a green light. The impact crushed both vehicles and scattered debris across the intersection.

Emergency crews arrived within minutes and found four people inside the Jeep. The driver and front-seat passenger were unhurt, but the two passengers in the back were thrown out of a side window. One suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, while the other fled before officers arrived.

Paramedics treated the Chrysler driver for non-life-threatening injuries and transported them to a hospital. Police confirmed the driver is under investigation for DUI.

Investigators closed the intersection for several hours to collect evidence, examine both vehicles, and interview witnesses. The roadway reopened later that morning after crews cleared the debris.

The Kansas City Police Department continues to investigate the crash.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families during this challenging time.

DUI Crashes in Missouri

Passenger Ejected, One Seriously Hurt in Suspected DUI Crash on The Paseo & Truman Rd

Drunk and drug-impaired driving continues to cause devastating collisions across Missouri each year. Alcohol and drugs reduce coordination, slow reflexes, and blur awareness, making impaired drivers a danger to everyone on the road. Many of these crashes occur late at night when visibility is low, and judgment is impaired.

Common injuries in DUI crashes include:

  • Head Trauma: Blows to the head cause concussions, brain swelling, or lasting cognitive problems.
  • Spinal Cord Damage: Pressure or twisting in a crash injures the spine and may lead to paralysis or chronic pain.
  • Broken Bones: Victims often sustain fractures in the arms, legs, ribs, or hips that require surgery and long recovery.
  • Internal Injuries: Damage to organs such as the liver or lungs causes internal bleeding and life-threatening complications.
  • Soft-Tissue Injuries: Strains, sprains, and whiplash affect muscles and joints, leaving victims with lasting pain and stiffness.

These injuries often leave victims unable to work, care for themselves, or enjoy daily activities. Families face financial strain as medical bills, therapy costs, and lost income pile up. The emotional toll of watching a loved one suffer can lead to lasting stress and hardship for everyone involved.

Under Missouri law, victims of impaired drivers may pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Evidence such as police reports, witness statements, and medical documentation helps establish fault and strengthen a case.

A skilled Kansas City DUI accident injury attorney can investigate the crash, handle insurance discussions, and fight for fair compensation while victims focus on recovery.
