Riley, KS (December 21, 2025) – A 77-year-old man lost his life as a result of a pedestrian accident reported on Friday evening, December 20, near the intersection of Madison Road/US Highway 77 and Falcon Road/US Highway 24 in Riley. Authorities with the Kansas Highway Patrol responded to the scene shortly after 6:15 p.m.
Officials say the pedestrian, Thomas McHugh of Riley, was crossing US-77 when he was hit by a southbound passenger vehicle driven by Stephen Williams, 63, of Green. The impact sent McHugh’s body into the northbound lane, where he was struck a second time by a Chevy Silverado driven by 20-year-old Jude Benson of Clay Center.
McHugh was taken to Via Christi Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Stephen Williams and his passenger, Brenda Williams, were also transported to the hospital for possible injuries. Benson was not hurt in the crash. The investigation into this Riley fatal pedestrian accident remains ongoing.
