Kansas City, MO – Two Injured After Pickup Truck Crashes into Home in Independence

Kansas City, MO (October 31, 2025) – Two people were hospitalized after a pickup truck crashed into their home in Independence on Tuesday, October 28. The driver, a Grain Valley man, is now in custody and facing multiple criminal charges in connection with the crash.

According to the Independence Police Department, the accident occurred around 4:20 a.m. when officers responded to a report of a vehicle that had struck a house. When they arrived, they found a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado lodged deep into the home, extending up to its rear axle.

Investigators determined that the driver, identified as a 41-year-old Grain Valley man, was traveling between 50 and 55 miles per hour when he lost control of the vehicle. The truck veered off the roadway, continued for about 200 feet, and then slammed into the residence.

Two residents were asleep inside at the time of the crash. The impact threw both victims from their bed, causing serious injuries. One person suffered broken ribs, a punctured lung, and deep lacerations to the head and legs. The other victim sustained bruising and abrasions. Paramedics transported both to a nearby hospital for treatment.

During the investigation, police suspected the driver was under the influence of intoxicating substances. Although a breath test returned a 0.000 blood alcohol concentration, the driver later admitted to smoking crack cocaine and taking suboxone before the crash. His blood test results are pending.

The Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has charged the suspect with felony second-degree assault, felony fourth-degree assault, and misdemeanor reckless operation of a motor vehicle. Authorities indicated that more charges may follow as the investigation continues.

Our thoughts are with the injured residents as they recover from this terrifying incident.
