Douglas County, KS (September 17, 2025) – A serious crash in Douglas County on Sunday afternoon, September 14, left two people with severe injuries. The accident occurred on U.S. 56 and involved a collision between an SUV and a truck with a trailer.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reported that both vehicles were traveling westbound on U.S. 56 when the truck began to slow down to make a turn onto southbound E 550 Road. The SUV attempted to pass the truck and struck the driver’s side door. The collision caused the SUV to veer into a ditch, where it rolled over and came to a stop on its roof.
The truck and trailer also went off the road into the same ditch. The trailer hit a rock wall and caught on fire. A passerby stopped to help and assisted in getting everyone out of their vehicles.
The driver of the SUV and two children were checked at the scene and cleared without significant injuries.
However, both occupants in the truck were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
