Wyandotte County, KS – Three-Vehicle Crash on I70 Leaves Two Injured

Wyandotte County, KS (July 22, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash early Monday morning caused injuries and heavy delays along the Kansas Turnpike. The incident unfolded on the eastbound side of Interstate 70, near mile marker 413.6 in Wyandotte County.

According to reports from the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 4:20 a.m. on July 21. A 2016 Dodge Challenger became disabled in lane two of three, facing eastbound. While attempting to avoid the stalled vehicle, a 2015 Dodge Journey collided with the front of the Challenger. The Journey then hit the barrier wall and came to rest on the inside shoulder.

The initial impact caused the Challenger to rotate, leaving it facing northbound in the roadway. A third vehicle, a 2025 Kia Soul, then struck the rear of the Challenger. The driver of the Kia, 27-year-old Breanna Scott of Park City, Kansas, sustained injuries and was transported to KU Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Journey, 29-year-old Judith Tumusifu of Kansas City, Kansas, complained of pain following the crash.

Emergency crews responded quickly and worked to assess the situation and care for the victims. The exact number of injured individuals has not been confirmed, and the incident is under investigation by unit K307 of the Kansas Highway Patrol.

We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.

Car Accidents in Kansas

Wyandotte County, KS - Three-Vehicle Crash on I70 Leaves Two InjuredKansas sees tens of thousands of crashes each year, many of which result in injuries on busy interstates such as I-70. In 2023, over 58,000 accidents were reported statewide. These crashes can result in serious consequences for drivers, including physical injuries, emotional distress, and financial hardship.

Understanding some of the most common dangers on the road can help prevent future collisions and protect those involved:

  • Disabled Vehicles in Travel Lanes: When a car is stalled in a live lane, it poses an immediate hazard to others. Limited visibility or high-speed traffic makes it difficult for other drivers to react in time to avoid impact.
  • Secondary Collisions: These occur when a follow-up vehicle hits one involved in an earlier crash. On highways, this is especially dangerous as speeds are higher and space for maneuvering is limited.
  • Barrier Wall Impacts: Vehicles that collide with concrete dividers or walls often bounce back into traffic or come to rest in awkward positions, increasing the likelihood of additional crashes.
  • Chain Reaction Events: One crash can set off a sequence of impacts, especially in early morning or low-visibility conditions. These pileups often result in more serious injuries due to compounded forces.
  • Pain Following Collisions: Complaints of pain may indicate soft tissue damage, fractures, or other internal injuries. It’s important to seek medical care immediately, even if symptoms seem minor at first.
