Independence, MO (January 6, 2025) – A pedestrian was left with life-threatening injuries late Friday evening, January 3, after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Highway 40 in Independence.
The Independence Police Department responded to the incident at approximately 8 p.m. near Highway 40 and East 36th Terrace. Emergency personnel reported that the pedestrian was crossing the roadway from the north to the south when they were hit by a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse traveling westbound.
Paramedics arrived on the scene to provide urgent medical care before transporting the injured individual to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Officials confirmed that the injuries sustained were critical in nature.
Authorities stated that the driver of the Chevrolet Traverse remained at the scene and fully cooperated with investigators. As of now, no additional details about the incident or the pedestrian’s current condition have been released. The investigation into the crash is still underway.
